Change
The NaBloPoMo theme for this month is change. I am so tired of hearing about change. Just yesterday I had to deal with this woman where I clean offices with a friend of mine. The woman in question is the receptionist. She has articles and pictures of Obama all around her desk. One is hand drawn. I should have known better, but while cleaning her desk yesterday I happened to ask her if she drew the picture herself. Well, that just opened the flood gates. I got to hear about how her husband drew it for her because he knows how much she loves Obama. She went on and on about how he is her savior and how he is going to save us all and our country, blah, blah, blah. I smiled and got the heck away from her as fast I could.
I have a problem with people looking to Obama as "the Savior". We have only one savior, and Obama isn't it. Aren't we told not to put our faith in men? (or women)?
Psalm 118:8
It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in man.
Psalm 146:3
Do not put your trust in princes, in mortal men, who cannot save.
Isaiah 2:22
Stop trusting in man, who has but a breath in his nostrils. Of what account is he?
I think we are in for some hard times in our country. I think some people refuse to see the truth before their eyes. Obama isn't going to be different, he's a politician, just like all politicians. Look at the people he has chosen to surround himself with, the people he has chosen for his cabinet. No big change makers there. I think our country will be less secure with him in charge. I think we will go deeper and deeper into debt. I think our morals will continue to slide into the abyss. I think the only thing we can trust in is the Lord.
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths." (Proverbs 3:5)
The first half of this these next few verses is a warning, but the goodness of the Lord shows through at the end:
Jeremiah 17:5-8:
5 This is what the LORD says: "Cursed are those who trust in mortals, who depend on flesh for their strength and whose hearts turn away from the LORD. 6 They will be like a bush in the wastelands; they will not see prosperity when it comes. They will dwell in the parched places of the desert, in a salt land where no one lives.
7 "But blessed are those who trust in the LORD, whose confidence is in him. 8 They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit."
Those of us who believe in the Lord, who trust in the Lord need to stand strong in the storm that may come. We must let the world know that we still believe the USA is governed by God, first and foremost, not by man. We need to pray, and ask God to give wisdom to those in charge of our country, but to never forget who is really in control.

The "Sisterhood"
I have been utterly shocked and disgusted with the response from some women in regards to John McCain's pick of Sarah Palin for vice president. I knew girls could be mean when I was in high school, but these are adults. Come on ladies, did you ever grow up?
I am a conservative woman. According to one “scholar” women who are conservative aren’t really women. I guess unless you are happy to murder your unborn children, you aren’t considered a woman in some camps. Isn’t it funny how they demand they have the right to kill their unborn children, but they don't think you should have the right to bear arms and defend yourself against someone who wants to do you or your family harm.
I guess I just do not understand the outrage. Isn’t feminism all about raising girls to be whatever they want to be? I used to believe that was what feminists were fighting for. My mom considered herself to be a feminist. She always told me and my sister that we needed to learn how to care for ourselves. We didn’t need a man to survive. My mom worked, full time, from the time I was about 4. I was put in daycare in NYC in 1972. I think it was one of the first day care centers open to the public. When we moved to Illinois, due to the transfer of my father within his company, one of the first things my mom did was get another job. I was a latch-key kid. I had an older brother and sister, but they were usually busy after school, so from 3rd grade on, I mostly came home to an empty house. But I could take care of myself. I knew how.
My mother also felt my brother needed to learn how to care for himself, so he didn’t treat a woman as a housekeeper. As soon as we could see the dials on the washing machine, we washed our own clothes. We learned how to cook for ourselves by age 8. We all got jobs as soon as possible. I was babysitting at 11 and cleaning offices by age 13.
Suffice it to say, my sister and I grew up knowing we didn’t NEED a man, and my brother grew up knowing he didn’t NEED a woman. We were self sufficient. The fulfillment of my mothers feministic dream. She raised her kids to be something she wasn’t. See, my mom married my dad at age 20. They dated since high school. She had my sister one year after her marriage, and my brother the next year after that. This was in the sixties, right when women were just getting their voice. She felt like she missed it. She wanted to be that bra burner, but she had two babies at home, and soon she had three (me). So she passed on her dreams to her children. Only we realized, or at least I realized, that her dream wasn’t reality. Feminists today are not the feminists of my mothers era.
It seems to me that all feminists care about today is abortion. Women must be allowed to kill their unborn babies. Under any circumstances. Babies are an inconvenience, a mistake. Girls shouldn’t be punished with mistakes, says Mr. Obama. If you don’t believe that, you can’t be part of their club. Nope, no conservative woman, who believes all babies are a gift from God could ever be a feminist. And if you happen to believe in that pesky savior, Jesus, and his teaching in the Bible, then you probably aren’t even a woman. No feminist woman could possibly believe in a a book written by men.
I was happy to see Hillary Clinton running for President. I certainly didn’t share her values or positions, but I did feel it was about time a woman had a chance to run for the highest office in our country. Many women around the world have already proven they have/had what it takes to lead : Margaret Thatcher, Indira Ghandi, Golda Meir, Benazir Bhutto, Angela Merkel, Mary Robinson and too many more to list.
Why is it that some women in this country keep saying “I wanted a woman to run (Hillary) but I didn’t want that woman (Sarah Palin)”. Pity, that as women we can’t just seem to support other women. We could agree to disagree and still be supportive. You can say to someone “Good for you, I applaud your accomplishments, but I don’t plan to vote for you, I don't share your views”. I think that is what many conservative women did in regards to Hillary. Sadly, the liberal women have all turned into attack dogs against Sarah. Guess their true colors are finally showing. It isn’t about supporting women, it’s about supporting their own selfish causes. And if a woman happens to be supporting their causes, hoorah. But if not, to hell with feminism and women's accomplishments, they'd rather take the man.

McCain/Palin '08
I have decided to actively start campaigning for John McCain. I was a bit leery of him at first, but he has grown on me considerably. I started favoring him more and more after watching the Saddleback Forum. I think today he proved himself by picking Alaska's Governor Sarah Palin as his running mate. Go here to read a bit more about her.
I watched most of the democratic convention on TV and frankly was quite frightened by what I heard. Although I do think Hillary gave an excellent speech, It was more about her than Obama. If I had been made to choose between those two, I would've picked Hillary over Obama. (Chilling thought that I might have had to pick between those two.) Obama scares the shit out of me quite frankly.
But since this is the USA, I have a better choice, John McCain. I was one of those waiting and wondering who he was going to pick as his VP. I was going with Romney because that is who I voted for in the primaries. I thought he would be the best choice amongst those the media were touting as on McCain's short list.
Imagine my shock and surprise when I heard his choice was Gov. Sarah Palin. At first I wasn't sure who she was. Then I realized I had heard her name before. I looked up a bit of info on her, then I waited for the official announcement and speech on TV this morning. I was pleased with what I saw.
I do hope everyone will seriously look at the issues and make a wise and sound decision about what truly is best for this country. And if you still want to vote for Obama after seriously looking at the issues, think about this:
10 Ways to be a good Democrat
1. You have to be against capital punishment, but support abortion on demand.
2. You have to believe that businesses create oppression and governments create prosperity.
3. You have to believe that guns in the hands of law-abiding Americans are more of a threat than U.S. nuclear weapons technology in the hands of Iranian Islamic fundamentalists and North Korean communists.
4. You have to believe that global temperatures are less affected by cyclical documented changes in the earth's climate and more affected by soccer moms driving SUV's.
5. You have to believe that the AIDS virus is spread by a lack of federal funding.
6. You have to believe that the same teacher who can't teach 4th-graders how to read is somehow qualified to teach those same kids about sex.
7. You have to believe that hunters don't care about nature, but loony activists who have never been outside of San Francisco do.
8. You have to believe the NRA is bad because it supports certain parts of the Constitution, while the ACLU is good because it supports certain parts of the Constitution.
9. You have to believe that taxes are too low, but ATM fees are too high.
10. You have to believe that the only reason socialism hasn't worked anywhere it's been tried is because the right people haven't been in charge.

Regardless of who you are voting for, please just remember TO VOTE! It is a privilege that few around the world are afforded.
