Kris Allen wins American Idol......woo hoo! For those who haven't been following along this year, the judges were blatantly in favor of Adam Lambert this year. Well, they were wrong. America loves Kris Allen. My faith in humanity is restored. Although we can't seem to get it right when picking a president, we can at least pick the right American Idol.
For your listening pleasure, a taste of Kris Allen:

I didn't watch this season but did catch it the other night and have since watched several performances on youtube. Sorry, but I've got to disagree. ;) Adam blew Kris away and if his career doesn't take off, I'll be very surprised. He is incredibly talented and has that unique star quality that is the essence of success.
If you had watched the show, you would have seen the blatant favoritism showed by the judges. It was pretty disgusting the way they swooned over him. It's one thing to critique a performance, it's another to lavish praise and pretty much tell the performer they should be the winner. Which is what they did for Adam. Maybe it was a backlash. I can admit it wasn't so much that I wanted Kris to win as I wanted Adam to lose. He just seems so fake to me. He dyes his hair, and he talks like a pretty boy, not the hard rocker everyone seems to think he is. He did musicals (he was an understudy in Wicked before the show) he was never a hard rocker. He came up with that persona to help him get a leg up on the show. I like the guys who are obviously artists (Adam can't play an instrument) and who put real emotion in their songs. Adam may have a good voice, but his whole package is artificial, and that was easy to see if you followed him from the beginning.
Kris seems like a nice guy and if I were voting for someone to have dinner with and meet my grandma it would be him. ;) However, if we are talking about who has a real future as a star, I still think it's Adam. Kris just seems like one of the crowd while Adam stands apart.
I think Adam's charm would wear thin after his first CD. He sounds the same in every song he sings. He just can't help going over the top. He isn't an artist, he's a singer. He doesn't play an instrument or write music. He could be a front man to a theatrical band I suppose.
It's all in a person's taste I guess. I wouldn't buy an Adam CD, don't think I could take his wailing after the 2nd song, but I'd buy a Kris CD. I thought his duet with Keith Urban was fantastic. But I like country music. Kris can do Indie type stuff, sounds good singing country, can go the acoustic or more rocky route too. He seems much more diverse than Adam.
Too each his own, variety makes the world go round : )
How funny. I was thinking that Adam is the diverse one. He can do Broadway, blues (A Change is Gonna Come was gorgeous), indie, hard rock, etc. And I would definitely buy a concert ticket for Adam but not for Kris. I suspect that the people who like Kris also like country music. (I have to agree with Valerie - it's "slow death by whining".) I'm more of a hard rock/alternative type. I'll be going to Kansas City to see Nine Inch Nails in concert next week (third time in less than a year) but wouldn't walk across the street to see any of the current country music performers. In the same way you can't take Adam's "wailing", I literally grit my teeth when I hear country music. As you say, to each his/her own!
Time will tell which one (or perhaps both) will still be around 5 years from now.
So many of the other Idols haven't really survived, so you are right, it will be interesting to see. Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood have done great. (But you probably don't like Carrie she's country). Ruben Studdard, Taylor Hicks, Fantasia, not exactly household names. We know who they are, but it's not like they've made it big time. Daughtry was 4th or something and he's one of their biggest stars. I hope Danny and Allison get CD's. Since you didn't watch the show you may not have heard Allison. She technically came in 4th. You should look her up on youtube, she was really good. You'd probably like her, very rocky and bluesy, a very soulful voice for a 16 year old. I liked her and would have been happy if she made the finale too.
Carrie is an Oklahoma girl so I'm proud of her but no, not my type of music. I did see the duet that Adam and Allison did. Very good and the hug at the end was really sweet. I read that Adam let her use his hair stylist. ;)
